Product Journey & UX
in packaging design

Mapping out user experience and product journey has always been my method for all my packaging design projects. It is all about finding the sweet spot between product journey, user experience, production and resource. How will this product be shipped? Which retailer will this product be placed with? How will it be merchandised? Who are the consumers? How can I craft packaging that aligns with brand identity, appealing to consumers while providing visual and tactile experience?

Tension Pole Caddy

Role: Created dieline, design & provided photoshoot direction; strategized creative direction; identified key terms and features, expanded product category.

Bath Mat Belly Wrap

Problem: This looks like a simple project. However, it demonstrated the complexity of product journey in package design. I created the design and dieline as well as mockups here in NYC, the factory in GuangDong, China was to produce samples for approval. Considering higher temperature and humidity levels in GuangDong China the sample size varied from NYC.

Solution: Apply removable adhesive dots between the inside of the wrap and the mat to create traction eliminated the problem (wrap card from slipping off). Avoiding product recall and chargebacks.

Toilet Brush & Holder

Role: Designed dielines.

Task: Design label or handtag for placement on the TB holder.

Critical thinking & Cross Functional Process: Instead of using the dieline supplied by the factory, I decided to have a conversation with the production team to seek alternatives. Considering the retailers of this product- TJ Maxx and Marshalls, competitive research revealed the two-part product will be separated. Multiple solutions were discussed.

Solution: After reviewing entire merchandised line, I found handles are relatively standardized. I conducted brainstorm session and found a solution to connect the two-part using the same packaging material. Et voilà!
